Trump's Trashing of the Economy
Everybody in a position of power is terrified that the World's Angriest Toddler will do something to them.

COMMENT MODERATION IS IN EFFECT UFN. This means that if you are an insulting dick, nobody will ever see it.
Bonus note, if we look at maintaining your cars, a Japanese car part (lets say a control arm) import from Japan for your car has a 15% tariff, so the $200 part is now $230. Meanwhile a $200 control arm for a Ford product could cost north of $250, and possibly close to $400, depending on the number of border crossings and where it was produced and with what materials.
ReplyDeleteSo your "U.S.A. brand" vehicle is now also more expensive to maintain. For new cars, the Honda Accord, built in Ohio and 60-65% U.S. content, only has to pay 15% tariffs on the parts imported from Japan plus any tariffs on Canadian metals, while the Mustang, built in Michigan and 45-50% U.S. content, has to pay 25% or more tariffs on the parts imported from Mexico and Canada plus tariffs on Canadian metals.
Producing cars in the U.S. under Trump is a mugs game, because you cannot source all the parts from within the U.S. to build any car. They'd be better to import the engines, harnesses, etc from Europe or Japan under the current tariffs. It's probably cheaper to ship stuff to Europe or Japan to finish and return for installation than it is to do the same to Canada or Mexico.
Your 2015 Genesis 3.8 has a lot of Mercedes suspension parts.* Your Toyota Supra has a lot of BMW Z4 parts too. Trump is already blaming a liberal judge for the crater
ReplyDelete* put right for the next 100K or lifetime whichever comes first. :)
