When I was a kid, some adult told me about the flight of the Truculent Turtle andtold me that he was on the crew. Over a decade later, I looked it up in a large library and read the original coverage of the flight. Of course, he wasn't on it.

  1. That is an excellent restoration! I got to see it (not flying) in 2010 at the Aviation Museum Australia which is only 20 miles north of HMAS Albatross, the RAN aviation museum, which also has flying historic aircraft! Of note, the J-34 jet actually burned 110/145 gasoline, not JP-4!

    1. I read about the jets being tuned for 115/145 in an issue of Air & Space Smithsonian. I wonder if they had an issue with lead fouling on the hot section's turbine blades.
