May You Live in Interesting Times

David Brooks is calling for a national nonviolent civic uprising to fight Trump.

I've been blogging here for almost 18 years. I can't even begin to come up with snark about a prominent movement conservative who is calling for the equivalent of a color revolution against a Republican president and ends his argument by quoting the Communist Manifesto.

Brooks delineated several functions of both government and civilization, all of which the FLOSS is not just failing at, he is actively destroying in his pursuit of unlimited power in a dystopian state that only serves the rich. The cure is for everyone to recognize the threat of Trumpism, come together, and push the bastards out.

If we want to save our country, Trump has to go. If you want to be able to buy meat at the store with some assurance that it's not contaminated, Trump has to go. If you want to be able to express yourself without the fear that an ICE goon squad isn't going to pull you out of your car and send you to a concentration camp beyond the seas, Trump has to go. If you want to see medical science progress and develop even newer procedures and treatments, Trump has got to go.

Trump has got to go.

  1. He has to go. I expect if unchecked he will get what he wants mostly
power and the ability to command adoration but like so many other
things he has done will will collapse due to fundamental incompetence.
He is not a leader, his followers have designated him as a demi-god
to do their will not the peoples.

So taking him down also means collapsing his support, his funding, his lackeys. It also means making money not the too of power. If there
was any decision of the Supremes that was an error its Citizens United
as it facilitates money as power.

He must go, his fiends with him.

  2. Brooks was an idiot yesterday, and he was an idiot forty years ago, and he is an idiot today. May an idiot sometimes say true things? Of course; but they are always likely to be more or less confused. So with Brooks, and, particularly, so here. What is his historical model of nonviolent protest? Amritsar?

  3. He may be an idiot, but his message is correct. The administration must go, or at the very least, brought to adhere to the laws of the land. Just because he signs an executive order to abolish something or to create chaos, it must be viewed through the lens of the current laws. We did not elect a king (I hope we didn't) to rule by decree.

    1. The law has no friends left. For every person who understands its purpose, a thousand others will tell a story of how they have been harmed by it.

  4. And the Republican Congress is going to grow a collective spine. Not. It is up to us; so make good trouble often.

  5. Non-violent is not a possible case. FLOSS has made the point he will
retaliate meaning, it gets violent. Seems getting put on a bus for the
end of no and where is a violent act. For that fact being a born here
citizen and needed to present papers seems already past the tipping
    point.

Brooks is late to the game. The rethugs are either cowards or cowed.
They need to grow those balls they are so proud on and stop the shit.

  7. Because Americans rely on polls in order to make important decisions, let's create one.
Who has been the bigger a-hole and more frequently (as in always) wrong:
    ____David Brooks
    ____Tom Friedman

  8. David Brooks and his (ugh) ilk wouldn't be setting a forefinger to a key if the destruction of US democracy were being done politely, with nods to 'compassionate moderates' such as himself. This is the consummation for which they wished. But it's being done incompetently, sparking a notable backlash, and threatening to ruin their brand. If we're in a war, they aren't more than alarmed neutrals. "Somebody besides me do something!"
I'll offer to call them allies when I see them the streets or linking arms against ICE thugs - the new US Gestapo. Did anyone see the House proposed budget re: ICE? More funds, more thugs, bigger camps.

    1. Pappenheimer, that's true. DFB's biggest beef is that his neo-confederate movement's been hijacked by incompetent grifters as they could see the finish line on the horizon.
