Caturday

Bella and Chip don't get along. So there is a gate up between their territories. The gate is really three baby gates, stacked on top of each other. The layout is such that a screen door doesn't work.

As you can see, there was a gap at the top. Chip recently discovered it; he has gotten out between the bottom and the floor, between the bottom two gates, and between the middle and top gates if the gap was too large, but he'd never tried to go over the top.

Until recently. I had to add an extension. The extension is made of craft-sticks (like tongue depressors). The vertical pieces are held with wood glue and a wire brad to set them. The horizontal pieces are on with just wood glue. Here, you can see the top gate is up, with the final horizontal pieces still clamped for curing.

Chip wasted no time in testing it out.

It worked.

  1. Cats love an obstacle of any sort. They get ambitious about defeating it. We have a baby gate for the bathroom, to keep the dogs out of the "Kitty Sparkly Cookies". I cut a bar out of the center for the cats to walk thru. Now the cats sit just behind the gate and torment the dogs.
we cat owned people know these things.
